Mkhedruli
Beri + dze
The name is simply built: the stem ბერ-ი and the suffix -ძე, where, in the view of most scholars, the first part once meant a son, a boy. That the word was current in name-making is shown by ბერი standing as a given name in its own right from the sixteenth century.
