ყადი ნური ეფენდი ბერიძე (Qadi Nuri Efendi Beridze), an Istanbul-educated jurist who served as judge (qadi) of the ხულო district and was son-in-law of the scholar ჰაჯი ლომან ეფენდი ქარცივაძე, initiated the first Georgian school in the village of ოლადაური (Upper Adjara). It opened in October 1915 under the Society for Spreading Literacy among Georgians; Beridze gave his own house for the school and taught there alongside its first teacher, ილია ნაცვალაძე. (Some sources give 1914 or 1916 for the opening.) The opposition to muhajir emigration after 1878 that is sometimes linked to the family is attributed by the sources to his father-in-law, ლომან ეფენდი ქარცივაძე, not to Nuri Beridze himself.

ოლადაურში გაიხსნა 1915 წლის ოქტომბერში, მაშინ, როცა მსოფლიო ომი ვარვარებდა, თანაც ფრონტი იყო გახსნილი და ათასობით ადამიანი მიუსავლეთში გარბოდა მუჰაჯირად; ოლადაურში კი ქართული სკოლა გაიხსნა და მისი პირველი მასწავლებელიც, გამგეც, მზრუნველიცა და აღმზრდელიც ილია ნაცვალაძე იყო, ხოლო პატრონი გახლდათ ნური ბერიძე, რომელმაც საკუთარი სახლი დაუთმო სკოლას და თავადაც მასწავლებლობდა იქ... გარეთ თოვლი იდო, მაგრამ არ ციოდა...“ (ჯანბერიძე/ჯაფარიძე 1995: 2).

It opened in Oladauri in October 1915, at a time when the world war was raging, the front was open and thousands of people were fleeing to miusavleti [?] as muhajirs (emigrants); yet in Oladauri a Georgian school opened, and its first teacher, its head, its guardian and its educator was Ilia Natsvaladze, while its patron was Nuri Beridze, who gave up his own house to the school and taught there himself...
