Claims

  • B-014 D tradition contradicts

A Meskhetian legend (recorded for ერკოტი, Akhaltsikhe district, and reproduced in popular surname compilations) says most of the village's ბერიძეები descend from a single monk who fled the ზარზმა monastery during a Tatar invasion, took a wife in ერკოტი to avoid suspicion, and turned to farming while secretly still holding services. The tale adds that this lineage was once called ზარზგიენთ (evidently after ზარზმა) and is today called ზანდარიენთ. This is oral lore, not documented history.

  • B-101 D tradition contradicts

The monk of ერკოტა who fled Zarzma during a "Tatar" invasion, married, farmed, served the liturgy secretly დარბაზებში, and was written down as ბერიძე; lineage called ზარზგიენთ → ზანდარიენთ

Folklore, recorded in ქართული დიალექტოლოგია I (1961), p. 362. A genuine field record with a named village and living lineage names — say that too; it earns respect without granting it historicity. The 1961 record misplaces the village in "Akhaltsikhe district"; it is Aspindza.

  • B-307 refuted mentions

"Beridzes are in the 16th-century Adjara defters, misrecorded as given names"

No secure Beridze household exists in the published Adjara defters. Only ბერული, ბერუკი, თავბერი — and -ული may be a nisba, not a truncated surname.
