The earliest document with an exact date that names the family is a charter of 25 October 1411 (koronikon 99) from Kartli, in which დავით ბერისძე and his wife მითა sell a vineyard at ბოტოტა to Svetitskhoveli under Catholicos ელიოზ. It survives in a later copy (Mtskheta documents No. 160; Corpus II No. 30). The name is older: a serf ბერისძე appears in a Shida Kartli blood-money claim of the second half of the 13th century (b-201).

In 1411 ბერისძე may still be a patronymic, so this is the earliest dated attestation of the name form, not the family's start. A church inscription of 1433 at Tsakhani (Samtskhe) names ბეშქენ ბერისძე (Brosset 1851; Skhirtladze 2005). PAL I (1991) reads ციხელ as Davit's kinsman (სახლიკაცი), where the site read ციხელა as his epithet; both readings are printed.

Berisdze Davit: has a [kinsman (sakhlikatsi)] Tsikhel, wife Mita. In the time of Catholicos Elioz he sold to Svetitskhoveli a vineyard lying at the end of the Botota vineyard (1411 X.25. 1449–1651).

    In Satsitsiano the Beridzes were aznauris (nobles) of the Tsitsishvilis. A 1411 document mentions, in Kartli, Davit Beridze, who has a kinsman (sakhlikatsi) Tsikheli and a wife Mita. He sold a vineyard to Svetitskhoveli.

    The Qipianis are found from the turn of the 14th-15th centuries. The Bedelidzes can be followed from the 14th century to 1690 (PAL, I, 495), the Beridzes from 1411, and so on.

    In 1411 Davit Berisdze gives a document to Catholicos Elioz: "I have written this deed for you and submit it... silver was submitted for you to Otar Varazi, that a vineyard should be bought for you and an agape laid down at Mtskheta for their souls on St Nicholas' day... now I have sold to you what I had bought" (Chron. II, 219).
