The Qipianis are found from the turn of the 14th-15th centuries. The Bedelidzes can be followed from the 14th century to 1690 (PAL, I, 495), the Beridzes from 1411, and so on.

The earliest document with an exact date that names the family is a charter of 25 October 1411 (koronikon 99) from Kartli, in which დავით ბერისძე and his wife მითა sell a vineyard at ბოტოტა to Svetitskhoveli under Catholicos ელიოზ. It survives in a later copy (Mtskheta documents No. 160; Corpus II No. 30). The name is older: a serf ბერისძე appears in a Shida Kartli blood-money claim of the second half of the 13th century (b-201).
