  According to Archpriest (dekanozi) Ilia Chighladze, Deacon Severiane Beridze, who served in Adjara for many years, converted hundreds of Muslims to Christianity.

  Also according to him, he was the first Adjarian to return in the 20th century to the faith of his ancestors, and he was baptised in the 1960s in the St Nicholas Cathedral in Batumi.

  A session of the Holy Synod canonised the deacon Severiane (Beridze), who for many years served in Adjara and converted hundreds of Muslims to Christianity.   - When I think of my uncle, Father Severiane (Khasan Beridze, 1920 13.07- 1996 22.08.), I remember a childhood full of warmth and curiosity; those are the years when I saw and took in what a loving, caring and loyal person should be. From about the age of 9 -10 the memory of my uncle and his family settled firmly in my mind, of my dearest and kindest aunt Guleser and their six daughters, - Ms Dali-Shorena Beridze-Kikavisa tells me.

• ბათუმისა და ლაზეთის მიტროპოლიტმა დიმიტრიმ დააყენა საკითხი დიაკონ სევერიანეს (ერისკაცობაში ხასან ბერიძის) კანონიზების შესახებ. კრებამ მოისმინა მამა სევერიანეს ცხოვრების ამსახველი ეპიზოდები და სასწაულები. კრებამ დაადგინა: დიაკონი, მამა სევერიანე შეირაცხოს წმინდათა დასში და ეწოდოს: წმიდა დიაკონი სევერიანე, – აჭარელი აღმსარებელი და მისი ხსენების დღედ დადგინდეს გარდაცვალების დღე, – 9 (22) აგვისტო.

  Dimitri, Metropolitan of Batumi and Lazeti, raised the question of the canonisation of Deacon Severiane (in the world Khasan Beridze). The council (kreba) heard episodes and miracles describing the life of Father Severiane. The council decreed: the deacon, Father Severiane, shall be numbered among the saints and called Holy Deacon Severiane, the Adjarian Confessor, and the day of his death, 9 (22) August, shall be set as the day of his commemoration.
