მათე ბერიძე

Erkota villager born 1894, recorded in 1982 (no. 40 in Marine Beridze's list of tellers). His texts cover the 1905 unrest, the 1918-1919 killings at Zveli and Varneti, collectivisation (1929 or 1930 in Erkota by the author's note) and his service in the Second World War. He tells the story of the large Erkota household of Petre Beridze, called Qiratli ('white-horsed') by the Muslims, whom the author names as her great-grandfather (passage a-549). sweep 3 A dspace.nplg.gov.ge

Mate Beridze tells us about one such family living in the village of Erkota. The characters of this story are my nearest ancestors. The head of the family, Petre Beridze, called "Qiratli" (qiratli = white-horsed) by the Tatars, 89 is my great-grandfather.
