The earliest documentary trace of the family in აჭარა (Adjara) is a charter discovered by დიმიტრი ბაქრაძე (Dimitri Bakradze) in the 19th century, known as the „იასე ცინცაძის სიგელი" (Iase Tsintsadze charter), which names a ბეჟიტა ბერიძე (Bezhita Beridze). Bakradze argued the document was drawn up before Islam spread in Adjara, probably in the second half of the 15th century (დ. ბაქრაძე, არქეოლოგიური მოგზაურობა გურიასა და აჭარაში, 1987 ed., p. 33, as cited by მ. კობერიძე, აღმოსავლეთმცოდნეობის მაცნე VII/2, 2024). The scholarly source does not describe Bezhita as a nobleman; the „აზნაური" title given in the Georgian Wikipedia article is an addition, and refers in the original to the Beridzes of საციციანო in Kartli, who were აზნაურები of the ციციშვილი house.
