rendering, not the wording of the record

The participation of the Beridze family in the popular liberation movement of south-western Georgia against Ottoman rule is also shown by the uprisings of the first half of the XIX century, one of which was organised by Memed-beg Chakhaloghli-Beridze, who was from the village of Zesopeli and was called Chakhali because of his speckled, small eyes.

Claims

  • B-021 D tradition restates

According to Adjarian oral tradition (recorded in ა. ახვლედიანი's 1970 collection "აჭარის საგმირო-საისტორიო ზეპირსიტყვიერება" and repeated in a 2024 article in აღმოსავლეთმცოდნეობის მაცნე), მემედ-ბეგ ჩახალოღლი-ბერიძე (Memed-beg Chakhaloghli-Beridze) of the village ზესოფელი (Zesopeli, ქედის მუნიციპალიტეტი) was a leader of popular resistance against Ottoman rule in south-western Georgia in the first half of the 19th century. The tradition calls him a comrade and contemporary of სელიმ ხიმშიაშვილი, says he was known as "ბაირახტარი" (standard-bearer), and that his band of about 100 men had contacts in სამცხე-ჯავახეთი and სამეგრელო as well as Adjara. No contemporary documentary evidence for him has been cited; these details are legend.

  • B-106 D tradition restates

მემედ-ბეგ ჩახალოღლი-ბერიძე of ზესოფელი and the „ჩახალოზა" rifle

Heroic tradition (ახვლედიანი 1970), plausible in setting, undocumented in detail.
