- B-003 A ბერიძე (Beridze) is a simple-stem surname: the personal name ბერი (Beri) plus the patronymic suffix -ძე (-dze, "son"), i.e. "son of Beri". ბერი is attested as an independent male given name in Georgian documents of the 17th century (e.g. a 1616–1621 charter naming a resident of ცაიში) and derives from the common noun ბერი, which in Georgian means "elderly man" and "monk", and which historian ივანე ჯავახიშვილი regarded as an old common-Kartvelian word for "son" (cf. Laz ბერე "child"). Linguist მარიამ კობერიძე (2024) classifies ბერიძე and ბერიშვილი as the "simple-stem (ბერ+ძე)" type, distinct from compound surnames such as კახაბერიძე or სულაბერიძე, where ბერ- is the second element.
