აზნაური given a mouravi office by მამია V for helping take ასკანის ციხე. Potto 1887 tells the Askana episode as legend and names the hero Божар Беридзе, possibly a garbling of Bezhan; he may also be the Bezhan Beridze of the late-18th-c. Erketi inscriptions (AKAK VI/2). An 1837 archival inventory names the Gurian aznaur removed as co-mouravi of the Sakatalikoso, Sajavakho and Aksani mouravates as "Beridze G.": two men or a wrong initial; that office ended in 1837. The Wikipedia statement stays the only non-legend claim

    At the beginning of the XIX century the aznauri (noble) Bezhan Beridze received the office of steward (mouravoba), because he had helped Mamia Gurieli take Askana fortress and subdue the rebellious Asatianis. For the same service Mamia V divided the stewardship of Sajavakho and Sakatalikoso between two men, one an Eristavi and the other a Beridze.
