Restricted to Samtskhe: Baramidze 2021, the text K29 cites, ties Jikia's remark to the Gurjistan defter only. The Adjara half is refuted at b-307: no secure Beridze household in the published Adjara defters. Whether ბერისძე in 1595 was already a hereditary surname is open.

Ottoman census-takers (devterdars) could not grasp the meanings of Georgian surnames when taking the census, "so it is no surprise that they did not record them either. They sometimes entered the surname as the father's name. That is how surnames taken by the Ottoman devterdar for a person's name ended up in the defter (davtari): Beridze, Demetradze, Vardidze, Kavsadze, Tsirekidze, Junbadze, Jevelidze, Jujuladze" (Jikia, 2013: 66; Baramidze, 2021: 46).
