Academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1974), Doctor of Art History (1959), professor (1960), Honoured Scientist of Georgia (1964), director of the G. Chubinashvili Institute of the History of Georgian Art of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1973–88), honorary director (from 1988), member of the main scientific council of the Georgian Encyclopedia, and from 1992 its chairman.
