1978 წელს დაამთავრა თბილისის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტის ეკონომიკის ფაკულტეტი. 1988-1992 წლებში სწავლობდა სსრკ აკადემიის ეკონომიკის ინსტიტუტში. 1993-1995 წლებში მუშაობდა საქართველოს მეცნიერებათა აკადემიის ეკონომიკის ინსტიტუტში, 1995-1996 წლებში — მერილენდის უნივერსიტეტში; შემდგომ საქართველოს სტატისტიკის სახელმწიფო დეპარტამენტის თავმჯდომარედ.

In 1978 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Tbilisi State University. In 1988-1992 he studied at the Institute of Economics of the USSR Academy. In 1993-1995 he worked at the Institute of Economics of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, in 1995-1996 at the University of Maryland, and afterwards as chairman of the State Department of Statistics of Georgia.
